The reading claims that the fuel cell engines have several advantages over internal combustion engines and will probably soon replace them and it provdes three reasons of support. In contrast, the professor states that the reading is optimistic but the fuel cell engines are not the solutions and she refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the article avers that the hydrogen needs for fuel cell engines can be derived from various plentiful sources and this would solve the problem of the internal combustion engine, which it relies on petroleum. However, the speaker opposes this point by saying that hydrogen is not easily available and hydrogen is not directly form from water. In fact, she mentions that hydrogen should obtain in pure liquid which is difficult to produce since it is an artificial substance. She gives an example to illustrate this point. She says that hydrogen needs cold environment under -3 and this is not easy to obtain since it requires equiments to preserve this substance.
Second, the passage posits that hydrogen based fuel cells are attractive because they will solve many the world's pollution problems. On the other hand, the lecturer counters this point by stating that this will not solve the problem and this engine would produce pollution. Actually, she argues that to create pure hydrogen, they need to use purification process and this process are using oil and coal that pollute the environment so factories would pollute.
Third, the article asserts that fuel cell engines will soon be economically competitive because people will spend less money to operate it. Conversely, the professor casts doubt on this point by explaining that the cell engine is too expensive because it needs hydrogen that is very expensive to obtain. In addition, hydrogen does not produce electricity and the effort to make it from cheaper materials is unsuccessful.
