TPO17- decreasing the birds population
The lecturer and the passage discuss the decreasing of the birds population. Although the passage claims that the birds population has been decreasing through the growth of human population and increase in use of pesticides, the speaker refutes this this idea through a number of reasons which will be described in this report.
First and foremost, the passage points out that by growing human populations, the natural habitat of birds will be gradually decreased. The speaker, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that although the urban growth has negative effect on environment, it provides better and larger habitat for other species. For instance, the habitat of seagull and pegeons has been enlarged and they can see everywhere. The speaker states that the home of some birds may shrinks, however the others may grow.
Furthermore, unlike the passage which states that in order to population growth of human, exploiting of lands has been increased due to provide more supplies, the speaker argues that nowadays in the USA less land used for agriculture than before. They substitude the introduction of the new crops which are more nutrients instead of using more lands to cultivate more crops.
Finally, although the passage says that the use of chemical fertilizer and pesticides are harmful for birds and their food chain, the professor disagress by mentioning that in these days people are more clever than before and two major changes have been happened which decrease the threatening of birds habitat. Firstly, the new pesticides are much less harmful for the environment and secondly, a new production has been introduced which is less dangerous for birds and more pest resist for crops. With two thes features the pesticides are no longer harmful for the birds habitat.
Through these reason which have been described above, the passage's claims are rejected by the lecturer.
