TPO43

The reading passage claims that agnostids became extinct too many years ago and from fossil records of rocky materials scientists have found that they were primitive arthropods. Also, the information given by fossil is not enough to determine their behavior and living condition but there are several theories that describe their situations. However, the lecturer finds all the theories dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.

First, the author contends that it is ideal to assume that they were free swimming marine mammals that hunted other species. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that agnostids swim in Open Ocean and they had very large eyes but tiny and pure well-developed eyes or somehow blind prevented them from hunting other organisms. Indeed, there is no fossil record to represent their well-developed eyes.

Furthermore, the author holds the view that agnostids would have survived by feeding on dead organisms and may have inhibited on the seafloor. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that they did not have the ability to move fast at very large distances. In fact, they move slowly in localized geographic areas where they originated.

Finally, as set forth by the author agnostids might have been parasites owing to the fact that they may be fed on primitive fish or other species. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that parasites population is not very large and if there were majorities of parasites, they would have killed other organisms or species. So, we could not take this theory into consideration.
