In this set of materials, the reading passage discusses “let it burn” policy in 1960s in the United States and provides three reasons why this was destructive. However, the listening passage refutes these reasons by saying that the damage of this policy was not so high.

First, the author states that a lot of plantes considered as the value of Yellowstone were extincted because of the fire. The lecturer says that this loss is not very serious. She claims that the fire made it possible to plant new speches of trees and hence, to larger a deversity of them in the park.

Second, the reading passage cites that because of the fire happened caused by the ‘let it burn’ policy many big and little animals died, that disturbed the food chain in the park. However, the professor dismisses this fact by saying that this event just encouraged the animal population to be renewed; and the food chain became stronger with the appearance of new animals and birds.

Third, the artical tells us that the amout of visitors was reduced because of this fire, that influenced welfare of the site. The lecturer brings up the idea that the fire was not only one reason why touristes did not come there. A lot of reasons like strong winds and rains resulted to this fact. However, according to the listening passage, many people come in the park every year.
