Your friend has the opportunity to choose either one of two types of majors (fields of study), which one of the following two majors do you think is a better choice, and why?
• • A major that would allow him to finish years of study and get a degree sooner (so that he would begin to work full-time quickly).
• Or
• • A major that requires many years of study that would provide him with more employment opportunities and offers in the future. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Without a shadow of doubt, choosing a proper field of study is one of the most crucial decision ones should make in the lifetime. A prominent question which arises here is whether to choose a major which ends up sooner or to opt for a major with more extended time interval but more qualification and skill. In my viewpoint, selecting the field of study, which makes someone more skillful and provide more job offers, is the best choice despite the longer studying time. In the following paragraphs, I will demonstrate my perspective with more notable reasons and examples.
The first vital point to bear in mind is that during ages between 20 to 30, it is the best time to study and gain more expertise. Furthermore, people are more interested in studying rather than working because they are still young. Besides, they are more energetic and also family supports them in financial problems. Another primary reason which makes this period of life more brilliant and shining is that people are still bachelor and more focused. As an example, one of my university’s classmates got married when he was just 20. At first, he worked hard to earn money in order to buy a car, house, and other house facilities, so he did not dedicate enough time to university lessons and assignments, so he got disappointing grades at final exams. after two semesters, the situation got worse and university administrations fired him. years after, he admitted that if he paid more attention to the university and gained more expertise despite getting married, he would have a better job as well as a more comfortable life. so it is essential for students to choose their major carefully and make the most benefit from their golden age.
The second reason which deserves to write words about is that employers offer better jobs to those with a better resume and experience since they do not want to make their company a trial and error place for their employee! if someone studies more and spends more years in the academic atmosphere, he or she would obtain a better research resume by cooperating with the masters in different projects and also deserves a better job. To be more precise, university programs make students more qualified and provide some extra courses for those with longer studying intervals since they have more time rather than others with shorter studying period. For instance, one of my friends who studied doctoral in electrical engineering spent seven years in university, worked as a teacher assistant, laboratory researcher, and professor coworker in an industrial project. after graduation, he applied for three job offers in different companies and surprisingly, all the companies accepted his request, so he had a wide choice to opt for a job.
To sum up the stated paragraphs, it is crucial for students to make the right decision and to choose the correct major in university. they have to consider the long term effect of their choice and do not scarify the job opportunity due to graduating in a shorter time but with no chance to find a suitable job!
