The graph below shows radio and television audiences throughout the day in 1992.
The line chart illustrates the changing pattern of radio and television audiences, who were over four years old, in The UK over three months, from October to December 1992. The units are measured in percentage of the UK population. In general, while people chose to listen to radio at noon, more people watched TV at night.
At the first three hours of noon, the figure of radio increased by 20% to reach its highest number at 28%, which was far higher than the total of TV audiences at that time. It experienced a series of decreases, which was lower than the figure of TV after 1 PM, to hit its lowest score at 2 PM. Although it recovered slightly from 2 PM to 6 PM, the rise was marginal.
By contrast, the figure of TV fluctuated at the first 8 hours, when the percentage of viewers increasing by 15% to 15%. The 8 hours after that, it rose significantly to peak at nearly 50% at 8 PM. This rise, however, was followed by a dramatic drop by 48% to nearly 2% at 2 PM. From that time on, it increased gradually to 5% at 6 PM.
