The professor says that the reasons in the passage are not convincing for migrating of edmontosaurus.
To begin with, the passage indicates that edmontosaurs migrated for food. The professor opposes this reason and she adds that North Slope was warmer at that time. In addition, the place had 24 hours of sunshine. To sum up, warm temperature and long daytime resulted in so much vegetation that could feed edmontosaurs. They could use dead matters in winter. Consequently, they did not migrate for food supply.
Second, the passage states that according to the skeletons which were found in the same site, edmontosaurs lived in herds which supports the migration hypothesis. The professor refutes this idea. She says that living in herds can provide extra protection from predators for animals. To illustrate, she talks about Roosevelt elk which lives in herds while, it does not migrate. So, the reason is not convincing enough for migration.
Finally, the capability of edmontosaurs to migrate for long distance is provided by the passage as a good reason for migration. However, the professor disagrees. She states that juvenile edmontosaurus could not move as fast as adults. As a result, they could not migrate and herds did not leave them alone.
