TPO 10 Integrated writing
In this set of material, the article states that environmental pollution had more effect on the decline in the otter's population and provides three reason of support. However, the lecturer finds all the idea dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all.
First, the author of the reading passage posits that chemical pollution such as oil rigs had been found in along the Alaskan coast which leads to otter's death and disappearance. In the contrast the professor refutes this point by saying that this fact increase the possibility of the predator's hypothesis. According to the professor no one could find any dead otter in the sea, which is a support for hunting theory.
The next explanation uttered in the lecture is that other sea mammals such as sea lions and seals also affected by pollution. In contrast, the lecturer explains that sea mammals like whale hunt the big mammals and only small mammals remains for human to hunt. So, this point can't prove the pollution hypothesis.
Finally, the reading passage asserts that uneven pattern in otter decline can be explained by pollution hypothesis. Conversely, the speaker claims that predator's hypothesis is more accurate than pollution in this case. The professor explains that in the shallow water human can hunt the otters easily, and otters in the deep water remain constant. Thus, the uneven pattern in the decline can be justified by the predator's theory.
