4-day employees instead of five days.
The Professor fundamentally disagrees with the points that reading has made. The author of the reading states that the option of working four days a week is beneficial for both the employees and the company. The author provides three reasons for his or her statement; however, the Professor highly discredits them.
First, the Professor claims that having four-day working employees not only doesn't reduce costs by means of reducing the costly errors, which has been mentioned by the reading passage but also it increases the company's costs. In fact, companies would spend more money on hiring new staff, training them, and providing medical benefits for them. Furthermore, it causes companies to expand their office space because of the additional employees; therefore, it costs even more for companies.
Additionally, he states that having four-day worker will not reduce the rate of unemployment because of a couple of reasons. First and foremost, managers will probably either ask other employees for extra hours of work in case it is needed or expect the four-day working employees to do the same amount of job in four days instead of doing it in five days.
Eventually, the Professor states that not only doesn't working four days a week improve the quality of employees’ lives but also it would decrease the quality of their lives and risk their jobs for several reasons. First of all, at the economically critical situations these employees would be the first ones who could lose their jobs because the companies tend to have five-day working employees. Moreover, four-day working employees may never get promotions.
