CONSUMPTION OF SPREADS
The graph below shows the consumption of 3 spreads from 1981 to 2007.
The line graph compares the amount of three different spreads, namely, margarine, low fat and reduced spreads as well as butter, in grams, which were consumed over 26 years from 1981 to 2007.
Overall, at the beginning of the time period there were two dominant spreads, butter and margarine. Their consumption rates decreased over the given time frame with some fluctuations, while the red line, that indicates the latter created spread which is low fat and reduced spreads indicates an increase in the final years.
With regards to amount of butter used, it began around 140 grams and reached its peak at around 160 grams in 1986, then followed dramatic decrease until 2007. Likewise, just over 90 grams margarine was eaten in the 1981, then blue line demonstrates a slight decrease during next 5 years and before diminishing to 40 grams at the end of period, it showed an increment by reaching its plateau phase in 1991.
On the other hand, the amount of low fat and reduced spreads peaked at nearly 80 grams in 2001 from its beginning value approximately about 10 grams in 1996. At the last year, the red line shows around 70 grams low fat and reduced spreads was used, which is the most consumed spread among the kinds of spreads.
