The threat of nuclear weapons maintains world peace. Nuclear power provides cheap and clean energy. The benefits of nuclear technology far outweigh the disadvantages.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Undoubtedly one of the most controversial issues of XXI century is the problem of nuclear energy. Being one of the most destructive weapons and a source of very cheap energy at once makes it being constantly talked over by the most intelligent people on earth. However, many of them claim that the benefits of nuclear technology far outweigh the disadvantages. I totally agree with this point of view.
Firstly, the nuclear technology provides us with the cheapest energy we are able to produce. Consequently, far more people are able to derive a benefit from it. That means providing a better service to the poorest, enabling them to use the electricity and enhance their living standards.
Secondly, the nuclear energy is the most eco – friendly source of genuinely efficient energy that we know. The amount of radioactive waste compared to the amount of produced energy is really insignificant. Especially if we were to compare it to the amount of pollution produced by deriving energy from coal.
Finally, some may claim that the risk of a nuclear disaster is to high. However, is not the risk of the disaster caused by the air pollution higher? To be honest, it does not seem possible for me to witness any catastrophe whilst having a well protected and supervised nuclear power station.
Concluding, I genuinely believe that there is only one problem with nuclear energy – people know nothing about it. Nowadays nuclear technology seems to be the only way to meet the energetic demands of rapidly expanding world of the XXI century.
