Who has not study the History of a country at least once? At that moment, it is common to start to compare the ancient people with people who surround us, because of some facts which happened in the past. However, it is not the principal reason to study history. This does not limit to merely compare people. Studying History accomplishes the main role to educate people in order to take advantage of it.
First, History allows us to know about equivocal actions committed by leaders in the past. Throughout the pass of the time, a country could have suffered political or economical mistakes, which could have left in a bad situation. For instance, the government of Greece did not control apropiately its economy and, because of this, it is now in bankrupt, asking economical help from Germany. Because of that country has realized the consequences of those kind of actions which led it to that bad situation, Greece could avoid repeating those incorrect policies and having that situation again in the future. Of course we could substitute this situation in other country and the story is the same. Any other country takes into account equivocal policies made in the past, in order not to put in practice again. As for example, in Peru, first government of Alan Garcia was a nightmare that any Peruvian would not want to repeat: hyperinflation, shortage of basic need products, etcetera. But, Alan Garcia took the power again and with the previous knowledge acquired, could make the country to go on without economical problems.
Secondly, History additional allows people to take advantage of or copy successful policies in order to increase revenues or benefits gotten in the past. For instance, the European Union was an excellent means to integrate a zone in order to economically combat world potencies as United States or Japan. Each european country could not fight for encompassing new world trades. For this reason, all of them get united to form a solid economical force. Although there are some problems there at present, this represented a good idea to enhance the economic power of Europe. South America saw this picture and formed the Andine Pact to integrate all countries of that region. This idea now pays off giving a solid fight against the poverty of the citizens. In addition, it is thought now to have a unique currency which will allow improving the regional economy even more. By knowing beneficial policies that took part in the past, people could then apply them by their own benefit.
Nevertheless, it is true that history also help to discard the idea that people from the past is remarkably different from people living now. It is necessary to make people understand that they are not distinct with their ancients so that reducing the racism around them. The principal fact which demonstrate that ancient people and people from present are similar are the customs. These belong to the history of a country and born intrinsic with the people. Furthermore, we cultivate the customs by learning from our history. And by realizing that people from past are not very different from us, we could start to understand we were, are and will be a country with a variety of races.
History now plays an important role in decisionmaking because it widens our outlook by giving us the correct and incorrect policies applied previously. Taking this background into account, governments and even citizens may build a better world.
