The maps below show the village of Stokeford in1930 and 2010.
The provided maps illustrate changes in Stokeford village over a eighty-year period.
The village is located on the right side of the Stoke River, which is wide in the south and narrows toward the north; there is a main road which is parallel to the river and crosses it in the north. As can be seen, in 1930, the most area of the village constituted of farmlands along the river in the south and on the other side of the road near to the bridge. In the west-north side of the road, between the river and the road, there were a post office and a small and bigger shops. Also, there was a primary school which had a large garden with an impressive house in the middle in the south opposite to the post office and the shops. To the north side of the shops, there were a few houses on the either side of the road.
Eighty years later, nevertheless, there have been substantial changes in Stokeford village; almost all constructions have been imposed to transformation, except the post office, which remained where it stood in 1930. There have been significantly more houses along the main road, which also has transformed having several branches. Two more buildings have attached to the school becoming twice larger than the previous one. In contrast, the garden has contracted twice of its original size, and the large house has become a retirement house.
The given illustrations show that the village has become mostly living area than it used to be a farmland in the past.
