In the reading, the author claims that the cause of the abnormal little ice age, which was occurred from 1350 until 1900 C.E., is known through three viable reasons; however, the lecture refutes this idea by providing several counter example.
To begin with, writer strongly asserts that cold current which had gone into the Gulf stream due to the melted glaciers was the main cause for this phenomenon.Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that the cold current would have affected only Europe and North America, whereas, the ice age was observed on south hemisphere- including New land and South Africa as well. Thus altering in the gulf stream cannot be accounted for the severe climates changes associated with this region.
In addition, the writer claims that huge amount of dust, coming from enormous volcanic eruptions, obstructed the sunlight, thereby causing a little ice age in the era. On the other hand, the speaker belies this claims by clarifying the fact that scientifically, clouds of dust could have such ramifications on a large scale.Nevertheless, if the volcanic eruption has been the cause, it would have been accompanied by visual effects such as colorful sunset and gray or brown snow instead of white snow, according to this issue that no record was reported the volcanic activities were not strong enough to generate this cool environment.
Finally, the writer suggest that the decreasing e population and its subsequent environmental impact is to blame for cool climate. The lecturer, though, dismisses it by pointing out that in spite of the fact that the decrease in the numbers of people is true it by no means did not last long enough to be in impactful. Indeed, the population soon rebounded and they needed to cut the trees in order to clear the fields and prepare sufficient food for the growing population. Consequently, the forests could not render weather cold that much.
