Some people think that universities should provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace. Others think that the true function of a university should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake, regardless of whether the course is useful to an employer.
What, in your opinion, should be the function of a university?
Apparently, universities play an indispensable role in the lives of human beings preparing them for their future lives. But the opinions are divided as two, whether educational institutes should focus on providing its students with needed abilities, knowledge or directing them providing access to those important assets. To my mind, both views need to be discussed, before jumping to conclusion about universities’ main function.
To begin with, people who support the first viewpoint think if students were taught all the needed knowledge by their universities, it would be quite effective since if it was realized, each graduate would be fully ready to enter working sphere. But I consider, it’s a wishful thinking, since regarding the fact that, we live in non-stop changing and developing world, the idea of universities’ provision their students with all the important information is pretty unrealistic.
When it comes to the opinion that universities ought to take the responsibility for equipping its students with useful directions and materials, I would totally join its supporters. In order to justify my thought, I can state, universities who prefer this method in their educating process, give their students liberty and therefore great chance to prove their potential. To be more precise, at that type of lessons students usually come up with a variety of ideas on taught issue and learn a lot through brainstorming during discussions involving the exchange of those ideas. Additionally, giving students freewill in learning process, improves their skills in doing research, which is a very useful aptitude for their future life and career.
In conclusion, to my mind, it would really pay off if the second option was given priority over the first one by universities.
