Both the author and the lecturer discuss the possibility of living on Venus. The author believes that because of the condtions on Venus, it is impossible to live there. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He thinks that by preparing a station, fifteen kilometers above Venus' surface we can live there.
First of all, the author points out that the pressure at Venus' surface is much higher that earth's. It is mentioned that by the high pressure anything will be crushed. This point is challenged bu the lecturer. He says that by using that station, the pressure would not be an important thing because it is fifteen kilometers far from Venus' surface. Furthermore, he argues that since the station is not on the surface, there is not a danger of crushing.
Secondly, the author contends that there is not any supply of water or oxygen on Venus. The article notes that only gasses like carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid are available there. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggests making water by using gasses on Venus, because it is possible. Hence, there is no need to transport water from earth.
Finally, the author states that clouds near Venus block the way for sunlight and this makes it a very cold place to live. The article establishes that these clouds actually reflect the sunlight and there is not enough light on Venus. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that the clouds are not that thick to block the sunlight completely. Moreover, he puts forth the idea that the station can save both the sunlight and the light that is reflected by the clouds, so there will be enough electricity to be used.
