Endotherm animals
The passage expresses the idea that although most of the modern reptiles are not endotherm animals; which means they can't maintain their body temperatures; dinosaurs are endotherm animals like mammals. On the other hand, the professor is strongly against this idea and in her opinion, the evidence which is stated in the text is not necessarily proving that dinosaurs are endotherms. She discussed some other evidence which might be stronger enough to show the opposite idea, dinosaurs are not endotherm animals.
The first evidence provided by the passage is the dinosaurs living conditions. Forasmuch as most of the fossils are discovered in polar sites, the conclusion is that these creatures were living in cold areas and they couldn't live there unless if they were endotherms to maintain their body temperature in those harsh climate conditions. But, the professor said these cold regions were not such as cold as what we might think and in the past the weather was warmer than today so they could live there even without any demand on endothermic conditions. Even if the weather was so cold they could migrate to another area or hibernate like other reptiles.
Another evidence discussed in the text is their body formation and the location of their legs under their body. The reading suggests that this form of body can be seen only in the endotherm animals because they need to run and keep on their physical movement. However, the professor repudiated this explanation and she illustrated the reason why their legs are underneath the body. She said because of their large heavy body which they need it those days, the legs were under the body not at the body's sides.
Finally, as stated in the passage there are especial dense canals in dinosaur fossils which are named, "Haversian canals'. These canals are characteristic of endotherm animals which could help them to grow fast. Nevertheless, the professor conflicted this rapid growth and as she said, this rapid growth was not a durable constant growth and after a while, it inclined to a slower pace, especially when they faced cool weather conditions. But, endotherm animals grow at a constant fast pace even in harsh conditions.
