The text is discussing salvage logging which defines it as a way we aim to deal with dead trees and remove them and provides three reasons of support. The professor goes against all of the explained reasons and tells us why she is against the text.
First, the text claims that dead trees take years to break into parts and decompose and they will not leave any room and empty space for the growth of new trees. The professor goes against this point and says that we cannot be sure that by removing dead trees we can reinforce the growth of new trees and create good conditions for future generations. She also states that dead trees can decompose into ingredients which can reinforce nutritional situation of the soil.
Second, the text says that dead trees are good places for insects and they can become habitat of insects like spruce bark beetle which can lead to damaging live and healthy trees. The professor refutes this claim by saying that, increase in the number of insects is not something really bad and also their annually increase in the number is not that much which may cause a problem. She also claims that dead trees are habitats for birds too which can be good and have a long effect on the jungle's condition.
Third, the text claims that salvage logging can have economic benefits and by using them we can create new jobs for some people. On the other hand, the professor goes against this point by saying that the economic benefits of salvage logging are questionable and sometimes we need helicopters to collect salvage logging in different areas which is too expensive. She also says that these jobs are temporary which does not last too long and also just experienced people, who know how to work with salvage logging, can find a job in this field and local people, based on their lack of experience, cannot find any job in this regard.
