The pie charts show the average household expenditures in a country in 1950 and 2010.
The two pie charts provided unfold the change of expenses by families among the five major categories in year 1950 and 2010.
As for data in 1950, it is clearly established that accommodation comprised the largest portion of over staggering two third of total expenditure in 1950. Second in terms of household spending was food, which accounted for 11.2% of the whole. In addition, expenses of the rest of major categories, namely, health care, education and transportation represented insignificant proportion at below 7% each.
Evidently, the proportion of the spending of each category changed drastically in 2010, among which expenses of food witnessed a surge by over three folds to reach 34% and overtook housing as the majority of the expenditure by families. Cost for living, meanwhile, plummeted over 50% to roughly a quarter of the total expense. Also, interesting is the fact that although both health care and education still required under 7% of the total expenditure after six decades, the expenses of the former one doubled whereas the latter one remained almost identical. Lastly, traffic costs and other category saw dramatic rise to reach 14% and 19.2% respectively.
Overall, housing and food remained as the top two major sources of home spending while the cost spent on the other categories had a general increase.
