Dowsing
Both the passage and the lecture are discussing dowsing. The author of the passage presents the numerous benefits of dowsing, but the lecturer is extremely skeptical of all these claims.
The passage states that dowsing can be used to locate places to dig in order to find water. The professor disagrees with this statement and explains that finding underground water using dowsing is a result of pure luck. In fact, she says that the probability of finding water while digging with dowsing is the same as when people do not use it.
The author of the article says that the dowser can feel the energy of water vibrating at given frequencies. The lecturer casts doubts on this by stating that this idea defies the laws of physics. She claims that there is no evidence to explain these forces that the dowser detect. Research has been done with more sensitive elements - used to detect very weak signals - but the energy that the dowser detects could not be identified by those special devices.
