Essay topics:

It is no longer possible for a society to regard any living man
or woman as a hero.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you
agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting
your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons
and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.

In our current society, the complexity of its structure is keep evolving and with the convoluted structure, many critical disasters, such as murders or kidnapping, are occurred. However, among those events there are always people who are willing to solve the cases or help victims from the disasters. I would like to call those people are deserved to be treated as a hero. Therefore, I disagree with the claim and I do believe it is possible for a society to regard any living man or woman as a hero.

Granted, some people might have objections against my opinion because they truly believe that no living person can be a hero. The people would have a strict standard to distinguish a hero from people, such as they need tons of scientific evidence to prove a person must be considered as a hero or they might need numerous records or documents to prove a person's behaviors were sincere so she should be a hero. Moreover, if they want to evaluate a person's behavior in a historical view then, it is impossible to regard living man or woman as a hero. The reasons might be vary but mostly, if rules have numerous constraints to make one person as a hero then their assertion might be plausible.

However, since we have advanced technology to process lots of information with superb speed, the process can be shorten and a decision to make one person as a hero can be made out in a short time. For instance, if one boy is kidnapped by a stranger, then people in the area will be noticed by an emergency service via a message through their mobile phones. If one citizen spotted the stranger, and report his location to authorities to capture the stranger then the citizen is deserved to be called as a hero. In the past, we did not have same number of crimes and we did not have enough technology to solve the crime. In addition, in the past, numerous detectives or officers were regarded as a hero when they catch criminals. Hence, due to poor technology, layperson or a citizen were hard to contribute to close the case but nowadays due to the advanced technology, providing an aid to authorities become much more easier with highly valued information. Therefore, any people can help to solve a crime, and it is obvious to call them as a hero.

Moreover, if people noticed one citizen saved a child from a suffocation through a social network service, then every user would put "like" to the post and the post will be famous to inform everyone in the service in the end. In the past, if a same event was occurred then it must be hard to collect an information regard the savior. However, nowadays, it is very easy to gather the related information because the savior's friends will post his information on the Internet to show an appreciation to the savior, and they will start to call him as a hero because they have evidence and many people who appreciate his kind moves to save the child. Like this, due to the advanced technology, any living people can be a hero.

It is possible for a society to regard any living man or woman as a hero because of advanced technology unlike the past. In the past, the process to verifying information and gathering evidence to make one person to a hero was difficult but with the technology, it become even more easier and convenient. Therefore, people should try to help others actively, if they want to be a hero in the society,
