solutions to prevent fungus spread to bat population
The listening lecture totally opposes to the reading passage in the solutions to stop the deadly fungus from spreading in bat population. To begin with, the reading says that people should stop visiting the cave because people can carry these fungus on their clothes and spread it to the bats. However, the listening argues that this solution is not going to work. Bats always carry fungus from caves to caves, so even though human stop visiting these caves, fungus will still spread between bats and bats. Besides, some cave that people never visit before also g=have infected bats. Therefore, it is unlikely that the spread of fungus is cause by people.
Secondly, the reading suggests that people can study the European bats because they are resistant to such fungus. Nevertheless, the listening implies that it is true that studying these European bats can be helpful, but it will take decades to study them and figure out a solution. Researchers predict that these bats will die in about 10 years. As a result, this solution will not be helpful because it is time-consuming.
Lastly, the reading asserts that heating the cave is a good method because high temperature can kill these fungus. Likewise, the listening is not convinced by this method. It is true that fungus will die in a high temperature environment. However, the bats will wake up when the temperature rise because they think the summer is here. When they wake up, they can have trouble trying to find food and eventually, they will die. In other words, heating the cave will not only kill the fungus, but also the bats. Therefore, this solution is not likely to solve the problem.
