The bar charts compare the proportion of water usage in six different parts of the world by industrial, agricultural and domestic sectors.
Overall, it can be seen that while North America and Europe use water predominantly for industrial purposes, other four regions use it mainly for agriculture
In the North America main user of water was industrial sector, which accounted for 48% while South America spend five time less on it. In South and North America usage of water for domestic purposes was 13% and 19% respectively and for agriculture South America spend approximately 2 times more that North America which comprised of 71%. Industrial sector in Europe consumed 53% of water while domestic sector uses about three times less and 32% of water is spent on agriculture.
In contrast, the remaining three areas use much more water for agriculture. The highest is Central Asia at 88%, Africa at 84% and South East Asia at 81%. All these areas spend less than 10% on domestic and industrial purposes and the only exception is South East Asia’s industrial sector which spend 12%.
