The graph reveals the percentage of people who are 65 or older in three distinct countries from 1940 to 2040. Over the one hundred year, it is conspicuous that the proportion of this population appears a rising trend in all the three nations, albeit to some slight fall.
As to the people over 65 in Japan, starting from 5%, it decreased gradually in the first 20 yeas before remaining steady between 1960 and 1985. Afterwards, the population climbed insignificantly to its beginning point in 2000, and is predicted to have a soaring tendency from 10% around 2030 to above 25% by the end of this graph.
In terms of the proportion in USA, the figure rose steadily from below 10% to 15% in the first 40 years, while reported an insignificant decline in the next 40 years. However, it is also expected to increase again after 2020 at approximately 23% in 2040.
For the figure in Sweden, just like other countries, it suggests an overall increasing pattern despite some subtle falls. Beginning as about 7%, it increased erratically to 20% by around 2012, by which, it fell a little in the next 10 years but will climb up again to 25% at the end of this graph.
