This table illustrates the data about trend in different modes of transportation used in England from 1985 to 2000.
Overall, the greatest distance travelled in miles per capita annually, is by car. However, the number of bicycle users and people travelling by foot has decreased over the period of time. As people also prefer other modes of travelling which has tremendously caused an increase in the average number of miles covered by a person per year over the past 15 years.
The table shows that cars were most commonly used for travelling from one place to another. The average distance covered by a person was 3199 miles in 1985 which increased up to 4806 miles in the year 2000. The use of local bus has decreased to over a half during this time period. The average distance covered by bicycle and walking has also fallen to 11 and 18 miles between 1985 and 2000 respectively.
However, the distance travelled by long distance bus and train has increased to nearly three quarters in miles. A great proportion of people have used taxis and other means of transportation for the purpose of travelling. To sum up, the total average distance covered in miles by a person in 1985 has drastically increased from 4740 miles to 6475 miles over the period of 15 years.
