the diagram below shows how salt is removed from seawater to make it drinkable
The diagram illustrates the way in which saltwater is purified during the linear man-made process, using a combo of a post and pre-treatment filter, a membrane and a storage as key components.
Overall, refining seawater requires three main stages.
At the beginning of the process, seawater flows into a container. This water is subsequently refined by a means of pre-treatment filter and undesired materials run back to the sea via filter backwash. After this step, high pressure forces pre-treated water through a membrane where it is split into water molecules as target outcome and impurities and salt as byproduct. This returns to the ocean in the form of concentrated seawater.
At the third stage, water molecules are, later on, treated with lime, chlorine and fluoride to make them drinkable. Finally, purified water flows into a storage before being delivered to the citizens through integrated water supply system.
It is also noticeable that this process is eco-friendly as it discharges redundant materials, but not harmful substances, into the oceans.
