households

Essay topics:

households

The bar chart illustrates the proportion of family that owned and rented houses in England and Wales between from 1918 to 2011. It is clear from the illustration that the number of households in owned accommodation increased to pass that of rented accommodation.
At the beginning, the figure for households renting accommodation and owning accommodation experienced the highest and lowest point among the whole period at about 78% and 22% respectively. The trend for owned houses kept growing between 1918 and 2001 and reached the peak in the year 2001 with just under 70%. In 1971, both type of accommodations stood at the same proportion which was fifty-fifty.
In contrast, the percentage of rental housing fell to the lowest number from 78% in 1918 to about one-third in 2001, a decrease by almost a half. Eventually, while the figure for households in owned accommodation slightly decline to more than 60%, that of households in rented accommodation showed a minor increase to about 36% at the end of 93-year period.
