The passage discusses "let it burn" policy which in that if the forest started to burn they would let it to burn. Based on the passage, in a destructive event in the summer of 1988 this policy caused a massive damge in a large area. As aresult, people want to replace this policy with an efficient method. In contrast, the professor states most of the time "let it burn" policy is a suitable way. The passage rejects all the text's reasons.
First, the passage claims that Yellowstone fires caused tremendous damage in a vast area and killed of many of plants. In spite of this idea, the professor explains that this accident was a good opportunity to other plants that did not have a chance to growth. So, they started to grow. As you can see, this event brings a good opportunity to many other plants.
Second, the reading argues that these fires destructed the habitats of many animals and also ruined the food chains in this area. In spite of this, the professor describes that in this event new plants started to grow. Consequently, new animals like rabbites which depended on this plants to feed appeared. After that, predatores of rabbits reach to this area. So, the new food chain and new habitats for some animals resulted.
Third, the article asserts this fires had negative consequences for the local economy. Also, the fires compromised the value of the park as a tourist attraction. However, the professor explains that this kind of accidents are rare. Furthermore, for starting accidents like the mentioned one many factors must be combine. So, in the reality they occure scarsely. Also, the professor says tourists after the ending the fire and repairng the area visit the park.
