The chart below gives information about birth and death rates in Switzerland from 1970 to 2020 according to United Nation statistics.
The charts illustrate the information about birth and death rates in Switzerland in a period from 1970 to present, and predict figures until 2030.
Overall, the birth rate have risen significantly since 1970 and is predicted to continue its growth in 2020-2030, while the mortality rate achieved a peak and started a gradual decline.
At the beginning of the period, the fertility level was approximately 1.2 million, whereas the mortality rate’s figure was precisely 1 million. In 1980, the figures for the birth rate did not change, but the mortality rose by 300 thousand, thus becoming dominant over fertility.
However, the trend changed in 1990, when the birth rate surpassed the number of death and started its moderate increase by roughly 0.25-0.5 million per decade. It has recently reached the level of slightly under 3 million and is expected to reach 3.2 newborns in 2020-2030. The mortality rate peaked 1.5 million in 1990 and started a fall. The figure is predicted to reach 0.8 million in 2020-2030.
