There are a pie chart and table which overlook causes of worldwide land degradation and how these effected three regions of the world during 1990.
Based on the pie chart, these were introduced three main causes for declining productivity in farm land. It is immediately apparent that over-grazing had major impact (35%) on it. Also, deforestation and over-cultivation, both, together would have almost same shares in land degradation (30%-28%). Apart from these, other causes had slight effect on land degradation.
Table compares effects of introduced causes on three regions namely, North America, Europe and Oceania. Total land degraded in the Europe was more than other two regions. As it can be observed, over-grazing in Oceania and deforestation played an important role in declining land productivity.
To wrap it up, dependent on a region and its geographical properties, the cause of land degradation differs. For example, Europe is a continent full of forest and its main cause for degradation was deforestation.
