The first chart below shows the results of a survey which sampled a cross-section of
100,000 people asking if they travelled abroad and why they travelled for the period
1994-98. The second chart shows their destinations over the same period.
The given tables depict about the survey of one hundred thousand UK citizens who visit foreign countries for the four different purposes and also give the information about their destinations for the period of 1994 to 1998.
Overall, it can be seen that most citizens had travelled abroad for the holiday. Also, in 1997 and 1998, visits were at a peak. Apart from that, their favorite destination was Western Europe throughout the period.
Categorically speaking, in 1994, 15,246 UK residents had visited abroad for the holiday purpose. The numbers decreased in the following year, it was 14,898, which increased moderately to 20,700 in the year 1998. The second purpose was business. There were 3,155 people who visited abroad for business in 1994, that grew to 3,957 in 1998. UK people who travelled abroad to meet their peers was 2,689 and 3,181 in 1994 and 1998 respectively. Moreover, Western Europe was visited by 19,371 UK residents in 1994. Those numbers surged up and reached to 24,519 in 1998. However, North America was the least visited place by UK residents.
