Overall, the proportion of paper and cardboard recycling remained the greatest among selected materials throughout the period. However, the recycling rate of aluminium cans showed the most increase, while the share of recycled plastics were stable at the same period of time.
In 1982, people of the country recycled over 60 per cent of paper and cardboard they used. Then this figure slightly increased to 70 per cent in 1986 but dipped in 1990 and grew again to 80 per cent in 1994. However, it gradually decreased to 70 per cent in 2010. At the beginning of the period, a half of used glass containers was recycled but the figure declined by 10 per cent to 40 per cent in 1990 and then steadily rose by 20 per cent, reaching 60 per cent in 2010.
In the contrast, aluminium cans and plastics were almost not recycled at the beginning. Meanwhile, the rate of plastics recycling remained at the level under 10 per cent between 1982 and 2010.
