TPO-22 - Integrated Writing Task Ethanol fuel, made from plants such as corn and sugar cane, has been advocated by some people as an alternative to gasoline in the United States. However, many critics argue that ethanol is not a good replacement for gasol
The reading passage and lecture have conflicting opinions about whether it is a decent idea to replace gasoline as ethanol fuel. The article strongly postulates that it can not be a good alternative for gas in the US for three compelling reasons. On the other hand, the listening adamantly delineates that the writer's explanations are not plausible enough.
First and foremost, according to the author of the excerpt, it can not solve the environmental issues associated with the usage of gasoline: global warming. Since it emits a great amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Nonetheless, the lecture offsets these points by declaring that even though it is true that ethanol fuel is created by the burning process and discharges CO2, it does not contribute to global warming. This is mainly due to the fact ethanol fuel uses plants such as corn, so the process of removing works in this situation. To be more specific, the plants will absorb carbon dioxide as part of their nutrition, thus there is no harm in the environment.
On top this, the professor further asserts that this alternative utilises plant's cell wall which is not eaten by domestic animals. |As a result, it will not diminish plant usage of farm animal. These claims refute the writer's implications about it will certainly decline the main food of domestic animals which is an essential part of their life.
The article lastly points out that it can not compete with gasoline in the US economy. Furthermore, he insists that thanks to the current government's impose policy, their prices are the same. However, if the government halt to support producers soon, ethanol fuel's cost will certainly grow up. The speaker in the lecture counters these implications by mentioning that it will be not much affected by government decision about taxes. Since if the consumers buy it for a substantial amount, it will lead the alternative's price to decrease significantly. According to the evidence, it says that if the number of buyers increases by three times, its price will decrease by forty percent.
