The reading passage mentions a notion, cloud seeding which has been designed to reduce the damage of hail pieces of ice that impact the farmers’ product in some areas of the United States and explains three points to prove it’s effective. In contrast, the professor tries to demonstrate that cloud seeding is a fruitless idea by explaining points for each mentioned point in the reading.
First of all, the professor casts doubt about the first reason, laboratory experiment because the laboratory’s outcome is different from reality. While the passage supports debated concept base on its’ adequate result at the laboratory that adding the silver iodide to cold water, changes the snow form instead of hail pellets, the professor says that silver iodide hinders any precipitation like rain or snow. So, it will have a negative effect like water lacking and drought.
Secondly, the reading tries to prove the idea due to sufficient effect on some countries around the world, especially Asian countries. Base on the professor opinion, it isn’t convenient for the United State because mentioned reason experienced just in the urban areas and its’ anticipated effect is more tangible on the polluted areas but it should be used for clean areas like farming lands. Consequently, the expected result cannot be obtained.
Furthermore, some local studies which support the efficiency of the mentioned idea have been rejected by the lecturer. One of the studies refers to the amount of damage in a farming site in the United State which less damage exhibits the cloud seeding as an appropriate idea. However, the lecturer mentions to the natural variation of local weather to reduce the damage rate instead of the cloud seeding because damage reducing was tangible on the other side like east and south and north of the mentioned area.
