The article says that the engine based on hydrogen-based fuel cells will replace the internal-combustion engines and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that it is not possible to replace internal-combustion engines by hydrogen-based fuel cell engines and refutes each of the author's points.
First, the reading claims that petroleum, which is required to run the internal-combustion engine, is a limited resource. In contrast, hydrogen is abundant and cannot easily be finished. Therefore, hydrogen-based fuel cell engines will replace internal-combustion engines. The professor refutes this point by saying that, despite being the availability of hydrogen, they cannot be found directly. For using hydrogen as fuel, it must be converted to a liquid state which is a totally artificial and much expensive process.
Second, the article posits that the hydrogen-based fuel cell engine will reduce pollution because it will not release carbon dioxide to the environment. However, the professor says that the factories, which will be used as the purification process of hydrogen and make it usable, will be run by coal and oil. These factories will generate a lot amount of pollution.
Finally, the passage says that hydrogen-based fuel cell engines will require less money to operate and are more efficient than internal-combustion engines. The professor refutes this point by saying that the hydrogen-based fuel cell engine is costlier to manufacture because it requires platinum which is an expensive item.
