The given bar chart illustrates the proportion of English and Welsh household possessions and leases from 1918 to 2011.
Overall, it is clear that house ownerships experienced an upward trend during the course while the opposite was true with house rentals. In addition, the year 1971 outstandingly marked an equal percentage of 2 categories.
At the outset, the number of house renters comprised an overwhelming proportion of nearly 80% that tripled the owner quantity. The former gradually dip by around 30% before reaching the balance figure in 1971. In contrast, there were more and more people in England and Wales bought houses for a living, which made the 1971’s owners' number to be twice as many as the starting point.
Since 1971, possessed housing kept increasing and peaked at about 70% in 2001. However, the year 2001 also witnessed the lowest number of household rentals, which was only a mere one-third of total accommodation. At the end of the period, owning and renting accounted for approximately 65% and 35% respectively
