In all this set of materials, Bothe the lecturer and the reading passage discuss the zebra mussels and their impact on environment. The reading passage firmly states that these mussels can be a danger for the population of fresh water fish. However, the lecturer asserts that there are several ways to control the spread of the mussels and repudates all of the reasons which have stated in the article.

Firstly, the lecturer articulates that these mussels are not serious threat for the environment. In the past, the people did not have any knowledge about controlling spread of the mussels. However, He mentions that by making the ballast water salty, these mussels will die. On the other hand, the text contended that by early ninteenth century these mussels spread to the whole whole of Europe via the ballast water of the ships.

Moreover, the professor avers that there were some predators for the zebra mussels in Europe. In the Europe after a while, some birds knew that they can ate these mussels. So, they start to prey on the mussels. Conversely, the essay alleges the mussels often have now predetors in their new habitats and high rate of reproduction, so they become the dominant of their new habitat.

Finally, the lecturer declares it is true that after the mussels became dominant the overall number of fish decreased. But they had some positive impacts on their habitats. For example, the mussels produce some materials which is the food for the fishes at the bottom of the cannals. Consequently, the population of the fishes at the bottom of the cannals increased. In the contrary, the text claims the mussels are plankton eaters and as a result they become a competitor of fresh water fishes.
