TPO41-Power Plant rules
The reading passage is mainly about addaptation some strict rules to protect the environment from coal ash. While representatives of power companies believe these strict rules not essential, the professor in the lecture firmly assert these rules should be adobt for the following reasons.
First, the reading passage states that, the most importang rule like using liner has done by power companies, and by liners coal ash components can not seep into the soil and contaminating the environment. In contrast, the professor in the lecture rejects this idea, and she further explains that, liners are not sufficient. In addition, liners are used only in new pond or landfill, and it is not require to old pond and landfill, so it has significant damage. Besides, coal ash components leak to drink water.
Second, considering the reading passage, representatives believe that, with these strict rules, consumers will get worry about using recycle product, and they convinced buy them. In contrary, the professor gives an example to explain this idea. she talks about Mercury as a dangerous material with these strict rules to handle and store. Also, it has recycled for 50 years, and consumers buy it too.
Third, the writer makes point that, with this rules the cost . On the other hand, the professor says that, of implementing strict rules will increased over 15 billion dollarsaltought the cost will increase, but it worth because the cost of electricity will become 1 precnet, and it is not much for having a clear environment.
