You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to go to college or to try to get a job. You think he/she should get a job.
Write a letter to this friend. In your letter:
• say why he/she would not enjoy going to college
• explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her
• suggest types of job that would be suitable for him/her
Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ...................,
Dear James,
Hope you are doing great and thank you for writing to me. I learned from your letter that you are in a dilemma of whether you should get enrolled in a college or get employed. I will suggest that initially you must do a job to gain practical experience before opting for higher education.
Since I know you for a long time and I am aware that you always wanted to become an entrepreneur, I don’t recommend you to go to a college first, as now the colleges focus more on theoretical knowledge than on practical experience. They do not help in developing skills of the students that will help them in building successful career. Thus, you will not be satisfied and get the required expertise to open a business.
Undoubtedly, working in a company will allow you to understand the work culture and gaining work experience. Moreover, it will help you to build strong connections which will benefit you in the future.
I’d like you to work in marketing and sales positions as they will help to improve your communication skills and will boost your confidence. Since you are a fresher, you can register to the employment portals such as monster.com, indeed which will help in job hunt.
I hope my suggestion should help you in taking the correct decision. I wish you best of luck for your future endeavours.
Best Wishes.
Prabhpreet Kaur
