The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The given figure depicts the process of electricity generation from water in a hydroelectric power station.
Overall, it can be seen that the process by which the electricity is manufactured is a linear and multi-step process which is composed of 5 stages: water storage, pumping down, operating a generator, production, and transportation.
In the first stage, the water is pumped up from the river to be stored in a high-level container behind a dam. Subsequent to that, during the day, the water moves through a pump to the station, where reversible turbines operate the generator and pump the used water into a low-level barrage. The generator, which produces the electricity, forms the fourth stage of the process. After that, the generated electrical current is transferred to the national grid via power lines.
After the generation of the electricity, during the night, water is pumped back from the lower-level reservoir, throughout the reversible turbines. Just after that, the water is stored in the high-level reservoir, whereas, it is re-used again to generate electricity.

The diagram illustrates the process by which electricity is being made in a hydroelectric power station.
Overall, It is readily apparent that there are multiple steps for the production of electricity starting from the river at a high level down to the generator at the power station.
The river dumps water into a high-level reservoir in a dam which stores water and releases it downstream for the generation of electricity at the power station. The downstream flow of water for the production of electricity is carried out during the day with the help of a generator while at night the water is sent upstream to the reservoir from a low storage area of water.
At the power station, the generator is driven by reversible turbines that operate all the time. At night time their function is to sent water back to the high reservoir, while during the day, they drive the generator to make electricity that goes to power lines and from there it goes to the national grid.
