The table depicts few modifications of average distance travelled by per person each year with 9 distinct modes of transportation in England between 1985 and 2000.
In general, the statistics reveal some erratic variations in the trend. Nevertheless, English people travelled more in 2000 than they did in 1985 and, their most optimal source of traveling was a car. Firstly, and evidently, a person driving his own car travelled 3,199 miles on average in 1985, moreover, his ratio after 15 years intensively rose to 4,806 miles in 2000. Apart from cars, taking trains, using long distance buses and taxis also significantly accomplished in their statistics from 289 miles to 366, from 54 miles to 124, and from 13 miles to 42 respectively.
Secondly, other three public transports namely, walking, bicycle and local bus was drastically affected after 15 years. From 1985 to 2000 local bus miles rapidly plunged from 429 to 274. Whereas, bicycles and walking distance mileages gradually decreased from 51 to 41 and 255 to 237 comprehensively.
To sum up, British citizen experienced a great alteration in terms of the modes of travel over a period of 15 years moreover, their walking and bicycling patter dramatically affected. Indeed, they preferred to travel by vehicles considerably.
