Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure centre that it runs, in order to save money.
Write a letter to the local council. In your letter
give details of how you and your friends or family use the centre
explain why the centre is important for the local community
describe the possible effects on local people if the centre closes
Dear Sir or madam,
This well considered letter is in regards to your erroneously giving serious thought towards shutting the doors of the beloved local sports and leisure facility.
To start, this gym must remain open for the members of my family who have been long-lasting members of the community. Both my mother and father suffer from diabetes and have been utilizing the fitness centre to lose weight and combat this disease. Not only do my parents benefits from the leisure centre continued operation, but also the city championship swimming team uses the pool for the practice.
As an additional point to reject closure, you should recall now integral the sports facility is to the community. Due to our geographically horrible weather snow and ice present four months a year, and the centre is the only winter option to have leisure activities. Even more to the point, the gymnasium is a meeting place for the community that enables us to make connections and strengthen our neighbourhoods.
If you do cease sports facility operations, we will loose a treasured gym that will have the negative ramifications for us all. As you well known, we have an obesity epidemic area and the gym closure will only increase the problems. Additionally, many citizens may consider relocating to the big city if you begin taking away such amenities.
Please take this point in mind when pondering the closing of the sports and leisure facility.
With regards,
John Smith
