The graph below compares in the birth rates of China and the USA between 1920 and 2000.
The line graph illustrates some similarities between Chinese and American fertility rates during the period from 1920 to 2000.
It is evident that the birth rates of both countries fluctuated considerably, with lowest during the 1940s and highest during the 1950s.
China's birth rates witnessed an increase from 10% to 15% over the period shown, then remained stable during 1940s. In the following year, the fertility rates of China hit a peak point at 20%, however fell suddenly for nearly 3 years. As a result, the Chinese's childbirth figure experienced a gradually decline around 5% until 2000s. The lowest number stood at just 2%.
Meanwhile, there was a fluctuation in the US birth rates over a period of 20 years. From 1937 to 1940, the childbirth rates fell dramatically to under 5%, a drop of almost 9%. After decreasing, the ratio of fertility in America reached a peak of 15%. Then went down little by little, just over 5% in 2000.
