The main idea of both the passage and the lecture is about the efficiency of group work. Having this in mind, the author claims that group work has some advantages over individual works and expresses three reasons to support its idea. The lecturer, on the contrary, explains that the theory mentioned in the text is inaccurate.
First, both the text and the talk discuss the idea of distributing work responsibility. In this line of thought, the reading explains that all members will give their knowledge and expertise to effectively accomplish the team work. However, the lecturer opposes this idea, citing that some of the member might get a free ride and do not work as hard as other members. Moreover, when the group project was done efficiently, the benefit and recognition went to the group as a whole and no names were addressed.
Second, both the reading and the listening put forth the idea of accomplishing the project faster than when done individually. In this vein, the author claims that the group can do the task more quickly and come up with creative ideas. on the other hand, the lecturer denies this notion and states that there is no guarantee that the group work is done more faster because it takes so much time for the group members to reach consensus since there are a number of meetings being required in order to agree upon on how to move the project forward.
Third, both the passage and the lecture explain the idea of influential members of the group. While the reading clearly mentions that each member has the chance to outshine and be influential, the lecturer refutes this notion. Accordingly, he states that influential members do not give other ordinary members a chance to talk and take a step forward. He further adds that most people will be convinced if the influential member says that the plan is highly creative even if they were being cautioned by the ordinary members that their plan is not applicable and might fail. Under such a circumstance, if the plan and the company's project fails ultimately, the blame will be on all members not merely the influential ones.
