The pie charts illustrate the changes in the percentage of 5 major sources of energy (oil, natural gas, coal, hydroelectric power and nuclear power) in the USA in the 1980s and the 1990s.
In general, the Americans harnessed the most of three fossil energy sources: oil, natural gas and coal, while the hydroelectric power was used the least.
According to two pie charts, there was a significant drop in the oil consumption by 9% from 42% in 1980 to 33% in 1990, and a slight reduction of the natural gas by 1% from 26% in 1980 downed to 25% in 1990. Contrary to an upward trend of coal and nuclear power, which similarly increased by 5% from 22% to 27% and from 5% to 10% during the 10 years period respectively. Meanwhile, only the percentage of the hydroelectric power still remained the same proportion of 5% over the researching time.
