The table illustrates the differences in the number of children ever born to women aged 40-44 years in Australia over the 25 years period. The data was collected each 10 years and grouped in 5 categories base on the number of children.
In general, it is clear that during 25 years from 1981 to 2006, there was a downward trend in females aged 40-44 gave birth of from none to two kids, contrary to the upward trend in those who have three and more children. And most of mothers had two kids over that time.
In particular, the most significant increase happened in the percentage of the females aged 40-40 years without children and have one child, which nearly double rise from 8.5 % to 15.9% and 7.6% to 13.2% between 1981 to 2006 respectively. By contrast, the percentage of four and more kids were raised by mothers aged 40 – 44 years doubly decreased from 27.6% in 1981 to only 11% in 25 years later.
