The bar chart illustrates the proportion of households in two types of accommodation namely, owned and rented in England and Wales during the span of 93 years.
overall, number of households owned accommodation occupied minimum proportion and it rose with some difference until last hour when data fell gradually. Regarding rented accommodation the statistics was at its highest which had downfall with certain fluctuation and after the second last year it had steady rise.
Households in owned accommodation in the year 1918 was around 23 percent which then rose with the difference of around 10 percent and remained constant till 1953. The percentage increased with similar pace and in 1971 it reached 50 percent; same share was occupied by rented accommodation. Likewise, the percentage then reached to 60 in 1981, afterwards in 1991 the data rose to about 68 percent and later with increase of mere 1 percent it was around 69 percent in 2001. Finally, in 2011 percentage of households fell by around 6 percent.
Likewise, households in rented accommodation in the initial year (1918) was at its highest with percentage to be around 70, which in the later dropped gradually to around 68 percent and remained constant until 1953. Likewise, the proportion fell steadily in 1961 and managed to be constant with household in owned accommodation. The statistics fell moderately till 1991 to approximately 33 percent and had slight declination afterwards. However, in 2011 the percentage rose gradually to around 35 percent.
