Overall, the number of boys took part in sports was higher than girls despite athletics, netball, and swimming. Also, the most popular sports among boys is soccer while netball was the most common among girls.
It is clear that most girls participated in netball at precisely 25% in 2002. Approximately 23% and 8% of girls enjoyed swimming and athletics respectively, which were considerably higher than boys. In contrast, the proportion of female participants for cricket, material art, and others were significantly lower than male for nearly 10%.
In New Zealand, among boys, soccer was the most common sport, at exactly 25% male participants, which almost five times higher than girls. However, the number of boys played basketball and tennis was relatively similar to girls, at around 10%.
