The bar chart compares the number of men and women in terms of ability to read and write in different areas of the world and offers the average number worldwide in the year of 2004.
According to the chart, people in both genders who lived in region 6 had the highest intellectual standard, whereas, region 1 registered the lowest figures of lettered people. Another interesting point is that the percentage of literate men in region 7 was almost equal to that of the world average.
Looking at the graph for more details, it is obvious that the figure of lettered men in region 1 stood at the lowest per cent (about 50%) in 2004, this number rose progressively to 70%, when observing from region 1 to region 6. After that, it decreased slightly to roughly 65% in region 7. Meanwhile, the percentage of female residents who were able to read and write fluctuated all over the given areas and hit the bottom at under 40% in region 2. Besides that, the percentage of female literate in region 4,5 and 6 are almost similar, at around 45%.
Over the given period, the figure of men who can read and write in region 6 held the percentage of 70% during the year of 2004, which was the highest one. Additionally, this number of another gender was smaller, accounting for 60%. Those figures were higher than the average ones in the world in both men and women, which were 65% and 58% respectively.
