the pie charts below show units of electricity production by fuel source in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.
The pictures compare the units of electricity produced by five sources in Australia and France from 1980 to 2000.
It is noticeable that the production in total for both countries saw a significant increase over the period shown. The main resource used to produce electricity did not change in Australia but were different ones in France from 1980 to 2000.
In 1980, half of the electricity (50 units) produced by coal in Australia, while natural gas and hydropower generated an equal number of units (20). Oil alone contributed 10 units of electricity and there was no nuclear station. In France, however, coal and natural gas, which were the two most common sources, each had produced 25 units of the total electricity in 1980. Oil, nuclear power and hydropower followed after, with the production of 20, 15 and 5 units respectively.
In the following 20 years, the total electricity production in France (180 units) overtook the amount of electricity produced in Australia (170 units), which was doubled the number of 1980s. in 2000, the production from coal had increased from 50 units to 130 unit that accounted to 3/4 of the total production. In France, all the resources contributed less to the total production, except the nuclear power which had become the dominating source with the production of 126 units.
